Information about Water and Gas Submetering

Submetering makes it possible to measure the consumption of each unit (apartment/house), bringing transparency, savings, and control — each resident pays only for what they consume.

What is Submetering?

It is a system that measures individual water and/or gas consumption per unit in condominiums, residences, and operations with multiple metering points.

Practical benefits

  • Real savings on the monthly bill
  • Billing control and transparency
  • Fast leak and waste detection
  • Consumption awareness
  • Reduced disputes between residents
  • Increased property value

Transmission and connectivity

GESTAG sends data automatically, enabling real-time monitoring and consumption history — ideal for places with or without local network infrastructure.

Alerts and notifications

Result: continuous readings, reliable reports, and quick action when abnormal consumption occurs.

Installing at the water meter (in practice)

The system connects to a pulse-output meter and records readings by pulse, building a chronological consumption history. This enables fair billing, auditing, and leak identification.

Where it applies

  • Condominiums: per-unit metering and reports per apartment
  • Residences: total consumption monitoring and alerts
  • Distributed operations: remote points, reservoirs, and wells

Implementation process

Simple flow, with guided deployment and operation validation:

  1. Site assessment: evaluation of hydraulic structure and metering points
  2. Planning: definition of locations and organization by units/floors
  3. Installation: connection to the pulse meter and placement of the transmitter
  4. Configuration: parameters, network (SIM/Wi-Fi) and unit registration
  5. Testing and validation: checking transmission, readings, and alerts
  6. Training: dashboard usage and monitoring routine

GESTAG - App for individual water consumption submetering

GESTAG Water Reconciliation

Water reconciliation in condominiums refers to the process of reading and charging individual water consumption for each unit (apartment or house) based on individual meters (water submeters). The term is often used as a synonym for submetering.

The main goal is to ensure each resident pays exactly for the volume of water they consume, avoiding unfair splits by ideal fraction or equal sharing.

How it works

  1. Individual metering: A specific meter is installed for each housing unit. The GESTAG system collects readings, which can be done manually or through our automated systems.
  2. Fair billing: When manual, a meter reader enters each meter’s data through the GESTAG app. This way, the condominium itself performs the monthly reading for each unit, and GESTAG issues billing based on the real consumption of each apartment. Only the common areas’ consumption is shared among everyone.

Benefits

  • FINANCIAL FAIRNESS: Residents who consume less pay less, and those who consume more pay more.
  • CONSCIOUS CONSUMPTION: Control and visibility reduce waste.
  • SAVINGS: Reduction in the condominium’s total consumption can reach 40% or more.
  • LEAK IDENTIFICATION: Abnormal consumption is detected quickly.

Legislation

Federal Law No. 13.312/2016 made the installation of individual water meters mandatory in new condominiums and residential and commercial buildings in Brazil. For older condominiums, adoption depends on approval in an assembly.
